Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar have attracted pilgrims, yogis and adventurers for thousands of years. Significant to many faiths and traditions it is considered to be the spiritual crown of the Planet. Appreciated as more than just a mere mountain, The cosmologies speak of Kailash as the mythical Mt. Meru, the Axis Mundi. The central birth point of the entire Universe. Kailash is so deeply embedded in the myths of ancient Asia that it was perhaps a sacred place of another era.. Mount Kailash along with the sacred Lake Manasarovar is intrinsically linked to the spiritual heart of Asia and has always captured peoples imaginations.

Day 1-4

Landing in Lhasa

The Himalayas have spiritually inspired people over the ages. None so much as the mountain region we know as Mount Kailash and its lake Manasarovar, “Where the peaks reach beyond the human realm and transcend to the divine.” These mountains are seen as a transitory points between the human and heavenly realms. When first encountering these extraordinary places one can appreciate how they have mesmerised and inspired many a mystic.

Day 5

Lhasa - Lake Yamdrok Tso - Gyantse

Known as Kailāśa in Sanskrit and Kangri Rinpoche; 'Precious Snow Mountain' by the Tibetans, Kailash is a Wonder of the Natural World in all languages. The inner peak of Mount Kailash reaches 6638 meters and is considered to be a source of the Four holy rivers that originate from this Himalayas region

These four mighty rivers of Asia are — the Brahmaputra, the Sutlej, Ganges and the Indus all drop from “The Roof of the World” and descend into the fertile plains of Bangladesh, India Pakisatn and China.

Appreciated as more than just a mountain Mt Kailash is a representation of Mount Meru, which in Hindu and Buddhist Cosmology is understood to be the centre of the Universe.

With Lake Manasoravar, close by, reflecting and complimenting Mt Kailash's splendour. It is not difficult to appreciate how people from different times and different places have stood in awe in front of these majestic mountains. From these sacred experiences have come the stories of the Gods and celstial encounters.

Day 13 - 14

Lake Manasarovar - Saga

Twenty kilometers away from Mount Kailash, the sacred blue and emerald green Manasarovar lake lies at a height of 15,015 ft known for its purity, containing healing properties and the power to wash away mortal sins. According to Hindu legend, the lake was first created in the mind of the Lord Brahma. Hence, in Sanskrit it is called Manasarovar, which is a combination of the words ‘Manas’ (mind) and ‘Sarovar’ (lake).
